2011, Glasgow, Scotland. The country’s newest and hottest rock band The River 68’s are rehearsing in their studio- come- lodgings in a disused office high above the centre of the river city, a mere Mick Jagger’s stage strut away from what was once the location of the city’s renowned live venue, the Glasgow Apollo.

“Although we weren’t actually born when the Apollo closed in 1985, we can look out the window at the cinema that stands there now, and dream about the legendary performances by those who once tread the boards there” says Gerry Loughrey, one half of the band’s rhythm section.

Brothers Craig and Christian McCabe grew up on the outskirts of Glasgow during the nineties, where they made friends with Gerry Loughrey at school. A similar taste in music brought the aspiring musicians together back then, and having all worked their way through several different bands, names, and line ups, it has brought them back together now as The River 68’s.

With a classic rock attitude and a contemporary delivery, The River 68’s are quick to tip their collective hats to music by the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes, and Foo Fighters. However, special reverence is reserved for the albums ‘Beggars Banquet’ by The Rolling Stones and The Beatles White Album, both of which saw the light of day in 1968.

Relentless local gigging has turned the band into a formidable live force with one of those shows taking place at the revered King Tut’s in Glasgow where the band opened for Stone Gods, featuring guitarist Dan Hawkins (also of The Darkness). Dan was so impressed by the young foursome that he offered to hook up with the band and work on their demos. The bands sound has evolved to encompass a diverse live act, with soaring harmonies and the addition of keys through some of the sets.

Since their debut performance at King Tut’s the band have been making all the right noises and opened for the hugely successful Rock Radio 4th Birthday Bash, holding their own alongside bands such as Union and Reef. 2011 has seen the band performing up and down the UK, with a return to King Tut’s in the Summer this time as headliners, proving their worth as one of Scotland’s best break through artists. Not only have the band established themselves as a firm favourite at this popular Scottish venue (voted NME best small venue 2011) the band have been making massive impressions across the festival circuit, playing in packed out tents to enthused crowds at Go North, RockNess, T in the Park, Wickerman and Belladrum. The band are set to appear as special guests to GUN at King Tut’s on December 17th and to perform at the official Kassidy after show party on the same night at Chambre 69 in Glasgow, it going to be a whirlwind of a night.

The bands first single ‘Just The Way (That You Do It)’ released in Summer 2011 has received a brilliant reception and has garnered plays across some of Scotland’s most successful platforms such as BBC Radio 1 Scotland (Ally McCrae), Clyde 1 (Jim Gellatly), Clyde 2 (Billy Sloan), Moray Firth Radio (Marion Scott), Forth One, Northsound 1, Radio Borders, Tay FM, West FM.

The band are now set to record their debut album, working alongside one of the industry’s most experienced producers, Nick Brine. Nick has many credits to his name, working alongside some of the most successful national and international acts of the past few decades including Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, Artic Monkeys, The Darkness, Ash and KT Tunstall to name but a few. A collaboration between one of the countries most esteemed producers and one of the hottest new acts is destined to have all the ingredients of a timeless melodic rock album that will be treasured for generations to come.
